Kartra review 2020

Kartra Review [Updated for 2020]

I have recently been experimenting with all in one marketing platforms to figure out whether you truly are a good solution for online businesses.

I recently reviewed Kajabi, and although I really like the platform, there are some important features that are not available on the basic plan, which led me to give Kartra a try.

Kartra was founded by the company that owns the webinar platforms WebinarJam and Everwebinar.

Kartra is backed by Frank Kern, a known name in the online marketing industry.

Before you get into the review, let me tell you that Kartra is not a CRM tool.

It provides you with the marketing tools you need to set up and grow your business.

Let’s get into the review.

Kartra Features

Here are some of the main features offered by Kartra:

1. Pages

Kartra provides you with a platform to create drag and drop pages with several templates available for you to use. These pages can be used for creating sales pages, upsells, downsells, one time offers, and more.

This feature of Kartra replaces the need for a sales funnel builder like Clickfunnels, Leadpages etc.

2. Email

Kartra mail is an in-built Kartra integration that lets you send automated or one-time emails/ SMS using Kartra.

Although email automation in Kartra is not as powerful as 3rd party platforms like ActiveCampiagn, it is good enough given the number of features you receive under $100.

You can also integrate Kartra with 3rd party email autoresponders if you are looking for more sophisticated email automation features.

This Kartra feature replaces email marketing tools like Convertkit, Active Campaign, Mailchimp etc.

3. Memberships

Kartra memberships can be used to host membership sites, courses or one off training. There is also an option of setting up affiliates for your training, so that others can promote your offers and get paid for it.

This Kartra feature replaces the need for online course hosting platforms such as Teachable, Thinkific, Membervault etc.

4. Videos

You can now host your videos directly on the Kartra platform. If you use the silver plan or above, you have access to unlimited bandwidth.

This feature replaces the need for a video hosting platform like Vimeo.

5. Helpdesk

You can create one or multiple helpdesks for your training programs, coaching and other offers. You can also create helpdesks based on the function, for example, Support.

You can assign team members to helpdesks and also choose whether or not you want to have a live chat or phone option.

This feature replaces the need for platforms like Zendesk, Freshdesk etc.

6. Calendar

You can use the Kartra calendar feature to organize your scheduled sessions. Kartra currently provides 4 calendar models, the consultant model, the gym model, the recurrent class model and the live event model.

This feature replaces the need for tools like Calendly, Acuity etc.

7. Checkout Form

The checkout form is basically where the money is exchanged. You can integrate with Stripe and Paypal to accept payments.

This Kartra feature replaces checkout tools like Samcart, Thrivecart, etc.

Kartra Pricing

Kartra comes with a $1 14-day trial. That offer appears on their exit pop-up.

The basic plan starts at $149/ month when billed monthly, or $119 / month when billed annually.

The basic plan does not include the ability for creating an affiliate program and if you plan to have an affiliate program for your courses, you will have to use a 3rd party platform.

You have the ability to set up 1 domain, 3 products and 3 pipelines ( sales funnels) on the basic plan.

The growth plan costs $199/ month when billed monthly, or $159/ month when billed annually.

The growth plan includes more of everything in the free plan plus advanced automations, the ability to remove Kajabi branding, as well as the ability to set up an affiliate program.

The pro plan costs $399/ month when billed monthly, or $319 / month when billed annually.

It includes more of everything included in the growth plan along with a code editor that lets you customize your pages and courses.

Pros of using Kartra

1. All features available on all plans

The one thing I really like about Kartra is that they offer ALL features on all plans. That means you can get on the starter plan at $99/ month and still have features like affiliate management, helpdesk, as well as advanced automations.

So if you are a solopreneur and not looking for the agency feature, the starter plan is a great place to get started.

2. All in one platform

Kartra is an all in one marketing platform, which means, you can use just one tool to run your entire business.

If you are not fond of technology, and want to avoid tech overwhelm, an all on one platform is the best solution.

3. Seamlessly integrates with other Genesis products

Since Kartra was founded by the same company that owns other Genesis products, including WebinarJam and EverWebinar, Kartra seamlessly integrates with these platforms which means it is really easy to set up webinar funnels in Kartra.

4. Hosts videos

If you are using Kartra, you don’t need a 3rd party platform like Vimeo to host videos for your courses or membership. All videos are hosted on Kartra itself, and with the new updates to the platform, if you are on a Silver or higher plan, you have access to unlimited bandwidth for hosting your videos.

You can also add capture forms within the videos which a great way to capture leads.

5. Great for agencies

Kartra has great agency plans which means that you can use one account to host funnels for all your clients.

There are 2 types of agency models you can use with Kartra.

The first one is where you are the account owner. You host your clients’ funnels and sublease them to the clients.

In this model, you can charge your clients monthly for renting out the Kartra funnels to them.

The second model is where you are the service provider where you connect your agency account with other Kartra accounts and manage them on their behalf. In this case, you operate as a contractor.

Drawbacks of using Kartra

1. Limited customizations for membership site

Kartra membership sites are not as pretty looking as Kajabi. Kartra focuses more on building robust funnels whereas Kajabi focuses more on membership customizations.

2. No mobile app

Unlike Kajabi, Kartra does not have a mobile app. I feel this is a drawback especially for your students since it would be easy for them to access an app to learn on the go. But Kartra’s cost and other features make up for this drawback.

3. The automation builder is not as refined as some sophisticated email marketing platforms

This is true for almost all all-in-one marketing platforms. The email marketing abilities are not as good as email automation platforms like Active Campaign, but all Kartra plans do have segmentation capabilities that are not available on Kajabi’s basic plan.

Kartra vs Clickfunnels

Clickfunnels is a sales funnel builder while Kartra is an all-one marketing platform.

Clickfunnels offers course/ membership hosting capabilities but they are not at par with Kartra’s.

Also, the basic plan for Clickfunnels starts at $97/ month, while for Kartra it is $99/ month, but Kartra has much more features available at that price point.

Clickfunnels does not offer an affiliate management dashboard or email marketing on their basic plan.

Kartra is a far better option when it comes to choosing a platform that offers all capabilities like sales funnels, course hosting, email automation, helpdesk and more.

Kartra vs Teachable

Teachable is a course hosting platform.

It does not offer features such as email marketing, helpdesk and sales funnels. You can build basic sales pages on Teachable but they are not as customized as the features available on Kartra.

Teachable’s basic plan starts at $39/m so Kartra can seem expensive at $99/m but that’s also because Kartra offers many more features than Teachable.

My Kartra review

One of the biggest advantages of using Kartra in your business is that it is an all-in-one platform that acts as a one stop shop for all your marketing needs.

I like it better than other platforms because at $99/month, it is affordable for most businesses and even though it costs less than $100, it has most features needed to run any business.

It offers an affiliate dashboard even on its basic plan, which to me makes it a better choice than Kajabi.

The customizations for membership sites are not as flexible as those in Kajabi, but Kartra makes up for it with the cost.

Overall, the one thing I’d like to say in this Kartra review is that it is a robust all-on-one marketing platform that suits well for most business needs.
